Vitamins, minerals, high-quality fatty acids. The macadamia nut is the queen of all nuts. Originally from the rainforests of Australia, it is now also cultivated in Hawaii, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, and Central and South America. Its fat content is around 75%. Iron, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Important vitamins such as vitamin A, B1, B2, and E are also found in macadamia nuts. Furthermore, it contains squalene and the typical phytosterols β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and campesterol—healthy fats that positively affect the human body. When cold-pressed, it has a light yellow to golden color and a slightly nutty scent.
NUTRITION
Since macadamia oil is rich in palmitoleic acid, also known as omega-7 fatty acid, it can have many positive effects on the skin. It is said to have anti-inflammatory properties and boost collagen regeneration. The oil’s ingredients can help against high blood pressure and cholesterol, and the included vitamins protect cells. You can easily incorporate macadamia oil into your diet. Since it goes well with both sweet and savory dishes, it is very versatile. Whether for desserts, nutty smoothies, salads with a special twist, unique marinades, or delicious soups—the slightly nutty flavor offers a special taste experience. The combinations are nearly endless. However, due to its relatively low smoke point of 150 degrees Celsius, organic macadamia oil is not suitable for frying.
COSMETICS
The high content of palmitoleic acid is a unique feature of macadamia oil. This monounsaturated fatty acid is otherwise found in such amounts only in animal fats. The high content makes macadamia oil particularly skin-friendly. In cosmetics, it is often used for dry and chapped skin. It is also quickly absorbed into the skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth. In moisturizers, anti-wrinkle creams, face masks, or body oils, macadamia oil is said to strengthen the skin’s lipid barrier and promote faster skin regeneration. Thanks to its natural sun protection factor, it is a popular ingredient in sunscreens. In hair care, it is used as a vegan alternative to mink oil, for example in anti-split-end products.
Macadamia oil can be used pure to remove makeup. It can also be used for brittle nails on both hands and feet. To do this, simply apply a small amount of the pure oil to the nails and rub it in. You can also treat the cuticles at the same time, which are often cracked in winter.
