Organic Camphor Oil (Ravintsara Oil)

Organic camphor oil is obtained by steam distillation of the wood and leaves of the camphor tree. Due to the ketone content, camphor oil should be used with caution.

In naturopathy, camphor oil was used in the past as a circulatory and cold remedy, said to raise blood pressure and have antiseptic properties. People used to drip it onto a cloth and hold it to the nose to revive the unconscious. Even today, most of us associate the scent of camphor oil with medicine. When used cautiously (as overdosing may be toxic to nerves and liver), it is said to help clear mucus from the respiratory tract. Its antispasmodic, circulation-boosting, and muscle-relaxing effects may relieve cold symptoms like headaches and body aches. Possible applications include inhalation, bath additives, or creams applied to the chest area.

This medicinal scent explains its relatively rare use in the cosmetics industry. However, when diluted with carrier oils or alcohol, it is a useful agent for impure, oily, or inflamed skin with poor circulation.

In aromatherapy, applied heavily diluted, camphor oil is said to stimulate and reduce exhaustion. Confusing thoughts that cause emotional imbalance are believed to clear, reducing overstimulation and improving focus.

Camphor oil blends well with Bergamot, Mandarin, Orange, Rosemary, and Sage.
