Organic Grapefruit Oil

The essential Grapefruit Oil is a slightly mobile yellow liquid. It has a fruity-fresh scent with characteristic citrus notes. The main component of essential Grapefruit Oil is limonene, which can reach nearly 100% concentration. Myrcene is also typically present. The distinctive aroma of the oil is produced by trace components, some of which contain sulfur.

The essential Grapefruit Oil is obtained by cold pressing the outer peels of the fruits from the grapefruit tree (Citrus paradisi). Small areas in the outer, spongy peel layers store the essential oil. These oil chambers can be easily opened mechanically. Yields range between 0.05 and 0.6%.

Use in natural medicine / phytotherapy / pharmacy
Essential Grapefruit Oil is said to have a positive effect on oily and acne-prone skin (acne vulgaris). Applied directly to pimples, it acts locally disinfectant, helping inflammation subside faster. It also promotes blood circulation in the skin and may aid in breaking down fat tissue (lipolytic effect). These properties are especially used in skin care for cellulite and obesity. Essential Grapefruit Oil combined with fennel oil, pepper oil, and cardamom oil is said to boost fat metabolism in the human body. By stimulating the thalamus in the limbic system, it promotes the release of endogenous enkephalins (pain-relieving, opiate-like peptide hormones). This induces a sense of well-being and euphoria, which may aid adherence to a weight-loss diet.

Use in cosmetics industry
Essential Grapefruit Oil is used in cosmetics for composing fresh top notes. It is also popular for aromatizing hygiene products (soaps, air fresheners). The scent blends well with other citrus oils, verbena, jasmine, cardamom, lavender, clary sage, palmarosa, rose, rose geranium, rosemary, and cypress.

Use in food industry
Essential Grapefruit Oil can be used in the food industry as a substitute for fresh grapefruit juice to flavor sweets, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and baked goods. Examples include sodas, liqueurs, cakes, puddings, cookies, sauces, or dressings.
