Organic Sunflower Oil LO cold pressed

Use of organic sunflower oil in the cosmetics industry

In contrast to the oleic acid-rich (= high-oleic; a monounsaturated fatty acid) organic sunflower oil, this oil is characterized by a high content of polyunsaturated linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is said to support skin compatibility. In the cosmetics industry, sunflower oil is often used as a carrier/base oil for active ingredients or essential oils, for example in creams, ointments, and massage oils. Due to its favorable fatty acid spectrum and vitamin E content, sunflower oil is considered one of the more oxidation-stable oils. It also serves as a cost-effective alternative to olive or peanut oil.

Did you know?

Sunflower oil is the fatty oil obtained from the peeled, partially ground seeds of the sunflower (Helianthus annuus) through mechanical cold pressing and filtration.

The sunflower originates from North America and spread further south. The Incas worshiped the sunflower as the face of God. At the end of the 16th century, it was brought to Europe by Spanish sailors. The sunflower plant, with its roughly hairy stem, grows between one and two meters tall. Its bud turns toward the sunlight. During a sunny day, it follows the sun’s path from east to west—a trait called heliotropism. The distinctive blooming, yellow composite flower usually faces east.
