Organic Milk Thistle Oil cold pressed
Use of organic milk thistle oil in the cosmetics industry
Due to its mostly unsaturated fatty acids, organic milk thistle oil is considered very well tolerated and is used in care products for sensitive, scaly-dry skin and in anti-aging products. The oil is said to make the skin supple again and support skin elasticity. These properties are also valued in foot care products, which treat calluses and other cracked areas, helping to reveal soft skin perfect for summer sandals. Additionally, the cosmetics industry uses milk thistle oil in formulations for wind and sun protection creams.
Good to know
The seeds of the milk thistle are used for oil production. Milk thistle oil is extracted by cold pressing the seeds. It is then decanted and filtered.
The milk thistle gets its name from a legend in which a few drops of Mary's breast milk fell on the thistle leaves while nursing her child still visible today in the whitish spots on the leaves.
The plant develops a 60 to 200 cm tall upright stem. The leaves, with their whitish veins, are elongated-oval and heavily toothed, with edges densely lined with strong thorns. The flower heads are oval-shaped and surrounded by several spiny bracts. On the flat flower base, 100 to 150 radially arranged purple-violet tubular flowers develop.
