Lavandin is a crossbreed of different lavender varieties, making its scent even more intense and refreshing than "true" lavender oil. The fresh flowering tops of the lavandin are steam-distilled to produce organic lavandin oil. Sometimes, organic lavandin oil is disparagingly called "cleaning lavender". This nickname is entirely undeserved. As a more affordable alternative to lavender oil, it performs well in many areas.

It is said to have germicidal properties, which explains its use in some cleaning agents. Similar to true lavender oil, which is believed to have a stronger calming effect than organic lavandin oil, this lavandin oil is also said to relieve pain and reduce inflammation on the skin and respiratory tract. It may support healing during colds, inflammatory skin conditions, or minor wounds.

In the cosmetics industry, organic lavandin oil is used for scenting perfumes, soaps, and skin and hair care products. It is also commonly found in incense sticks and scented candles. As a "laundry scent," it combines the pleasant with the practical by imparting a refreshing fragrance that may also help repel moths.

In aromatherapy, organic lavandin oil is said to help reduce nervousness and palpitations, though somewhat less than true lavender oil.

Organic lavandin oil blends well with bergamot, mandarin, orange, petitgrain, sage, and lemon.
