Organic Milk Thistle Oil Cold Pressed
Organic milk thistle oil and its use in the food industry
The milk thistle reminds many of a journey through the Mediterranean in the warm midday sun, where it blooms on roadsides with its unmistakable violet flower heads. It was valued in medieval monasteries as a “liver plant.” Milk thistle oil therefore goes well with Mediterranean salads, soups, or cold dishes.
What ingredients does organic milk thistle oil have?
As a natural oil with a fatty acid composition similar to sunflower oil, our organic milk thistle oil stands out due to its high content of vitamin E and silymarin.
Good to know
The plant likely came to Central Europe as a medicinal herb through the Romans and was widely used in monastic gardens. Today, it can be found wild in northern Germany, Denmark, Belgium, and England. It probably originates from Mediterranean and Western Asian steppes and has spread worldwide.
The root is a deep, spindle-shaped taproot, from which a plant up to two meters tall with many leaves grows. The edges of the milk thistle leaves are densely covered with strong thorns.
Milk thistle oil is extracted by mechanical pressing from the seeds of the purple, thorny milk thistle flower heads.
