Organic safflower oil, high oleic, refined, and its use in the food industry

Refined safflower oil, with a high oleic acid content and sourced from organic farming, is a light yellow liquid with a neutral taste and delicate aroma.

Due to its high content of unsaturated fatty acids, organic safflower oil, high oleic, is not heat-stable and is not suitable for frying. Refined safflower oil with a high oleic acid content, however, can be used for frying due to its higher thermal stability.

Refined safflower oil is suitable for vegetable dishes, sauces, soups, and salads due to its mild flavor.

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) is harvested between August and September. The dried plant material is processed so that the seeds are collected using a combine harvester, while the petals are traditionally picked by hand to be used as a natural dye.

Organic safflower oil is obtained from the seeds of Carthamus tinctorius through cold pressing, followed by refining.

Interesting facts

The safflower's flower color resembles saffron, which explains its nickname “false saffron”. Historically, the safflower was cultivated for the red dye carthamin, while today it is primarily grown for oil production. The ancient Egyptians also used safflower’s coloring properties to dye mummy cloths.

Safflower grows quickly to a final height of up to 1.30 meters. Its leaves are thorny, and the flower resembles a small basket from which up to 150 orange-yellow tubular florets emerge.
