The use of organic castor oil in the cosmetics industry
Especially decorative cosmetics benefit from the properties of organic castor oil: it acts like a solvent, is viscous, has good adhesion and is water-repellent, strengthening pigment adhesion. Additionally, it forms a protective film on skin and hair and has a moisturizing, glossy effect. For this reason, the cosmetics industry uses organic castor oil in the manufacture of lipsticks, eyeliners, or mascara. Also, tonics and care oils for hair and nails frequently include organic castor oil.
Interesting facts
Fittingly, organic castor oil is obtained from the seeds of the “miracle tree” which belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family. The Egyptians already used the cosmetic properties of castor oil. Today, the miracle tree mainly grows in the tropics and subtropics of East Asia and South America.
