Oragnic Calamus Oil
Organic calamus essential oil ranges in color from pale yellow to brownish-yellow. It has a distinctive earthy aroma reminiscent of roots and damp soil, complemented by subtle camphor-like nuances and a gentle bitter-spicy undertone.
In perfumery and cosmetic applications, calamus essential oil is prized for the depth and complexity it brings to fragrance compositions. Its spicy, herbaceous character may work well in amber, chypre, and tobacco-inspired scents, where it contributes unique aromatic top notes.
In aromatherapy, calamus essential oil is valued for its rich and distinctive scent. It can be used in diffusion blends (for instance with sandalwood oil for a earthy-warm scent) and fragrance lamps to enhance aromatic experiences and create complex fragrance profiles.
The oil is produced by steam distilling the roots of the calamus plant (Acorus calamus). It blends easily with vegetable oils and other essential oils, while remaining largely insoluble in water and only slightly soluble in alcohol.
Interesting things
Unlike many essential oils that are distilled from flowers, leaves, or fruits, calamus oil is extracted from the plant's rhizomes. These underground stems contain the aromatic compounds responsible for the oil's characteristic earthy, woody, and spicy scent.
