Organic Camelina Oil Cold Pressed

Organic Camelina Oil and its use in the food industry

Organic Camelina Oil is primarily an exquisite, tasty edible oil. It can be used similarly to linseed oil or fish oil, as it’s an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids and more oxidation-stable. It’s ideal for cold dishes but should not be heated. Its high alpha-linolenic acid content makes it especially suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and raw food diets. The food industry uses Organic Camelina Oil for salad dressings, potato dishes, spreads, dips, pesto, or yogurt. Our camelina flour is also great for delicious coatings.

What are the components of Camelina Oil Organic?

Compared to other edible oils commonly used in nutrition, camelina seed oil has a very balanced fatty acid profile. While oils like rapeseed, olive, or linseed oil often contain 60% or more of a specific fatty acid, Organic Camelina Oil is more balanced. These diverse, high-quality ingredients should not be overheated, which is why our SanaBio Organic Camelina Oil is not suitable for frying.

Confusion with Linseed Oil Organic

Due to the similar name, Organic Camelina Oil is often confused with linseed oil, which we also offer. Botanically, however, they are unrelated. Flax (linseed) belongs to the Linaceae family, while camelina is a member of the Brassicaceae. Their flavors also differ: Organic Camelina Oil tastes like peas and meadow, Linseed Oil is more nutty.

Did You Know?

Camelina is considered an ancient crop, believed to be used in Celtic diets, though it has largely been forgotten in recent decades.

The camelina plant is undemanding and even acts as a natural weed suppressant. When planted alongside oats or peas, it covers the soil and prevents weed growth. The annual plant grows to about half a meter with small pale yellow flowers. Its hard, pod-like fruits contain 8 to 16 seeds, each about 5 mm long, containing 30-40% oil.

To obtain camelina oil, the seeds are removed from the fruit, ground, and cold-pressed using our screw press.
