Organic Coconut Oil, Refined and its use in the food industry

Organic refined coconut oil, also known as organic refined coconut fat, is a certified organic coconut oil that has been purified through a gentle refining process. Unlike cold-pressed organic coconut oil, organic refined coconut oil has a neutral taste and aroma. It is solid at room temperature and becomes liquid at approximately 24-29 °C.

Organic refined coconut oil is composed almost entirely of fat and is suitable for use as a food or as an ingredient in foods and food supplements. Due to its higher smoke point compared to cold-pressed coconut oil, organic refined coconut oil is ideal for cooking, sautéing, baking, and frying at higher temperatures.

For applications where the natural coconut flavor is preferred, organic cold-pressed coconut oil is recommended. Both refined and cold-pressed organic coconut oil can also be used in cosmetics and other non-food applications.

Refined organic coconut oil is obtained by pressing the dried nutritive tissue of the coconut, called copra. After pressing, the crude coconut oil undergoes a refining process that may include filtering, deodorizing, and neutralizing, resulting in a clean, mild, and more stable oil.

Interesting facts

The coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) most likely originates from the Malay Archipelago. Today, it is widespread throughout all tropical regions, thriving in favorable climates and benefiting from the buoyancy of its fruit, which facilitates natural dispersal through water, a mechanism known as hydrochory.

The coconut tree has a tall, columnar trunk, 30-35 m high, without branches, often slightly curved at the base, crowned with large, feathery leaves. The fruits, coconuts, grow in clusters under the leaves. A mature palm tree can produce 60-160 nuts per year, depending on the variety and growing conditions.
