Organic Perilla Oil cold pressed

Organic Perilla Oil and its use in the food industry

The oil of the Perilla plant, also called Chinese basil or wild sesame, is not yet widely known in our region. However, Organic Perilla Oil from SanaBio is an excellent cooking oil for the food industry. Use this exotic alternative to flaxseed oil with its fine minty flavor to add an East Asian touch to your recipes. Especially noodle and meat dishes gain a unique note.

What ingredients does Organic Perilla Oil contain?

Organic Perilla Oil has a similar fatty acid profile to organic flaxseed oil, with a high content of essential polyunsaturated Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acid.

Interesting facts

Originally from the mountains of China and India, the Perilla plant now also grows in neighboring countries, the USA, Cyprus, and Austria. Very popular in Japanese cuisine is the dish “Umeboshi” consisting of Ume fruits wrapped in Perilla leaves. Traditional Far Eastern medicine from China and Japan used Perilla Oil to regulate cholesterol and blood pressure, supporting the cardiovascular system. It was also used for acute digestive issues and headaches.

The Perilla plant, the base for Perilla Oil, is a herbaceous annual plant, usually about half a meter tall. Its oval leaves are long-stemmed, serrated at the edges, and shimmer in green, purple, to purplish-red hues.

Inside its small white or violet flowers are gray to brown seeds, from which we extract our SanaBio Perilla Oil using cold pressing.
