Organic Cistus Oil
The organic essential cistus oil has a yellowish to brownish color. Its fragrance is intensely spicy and aromatic, characterized by warm, musk-like notes. The aroma unfolds particularly well when diluted, for example in high-quality carrier oils.
The warm, resinous aroma of cistus oil can blend well with organic frankincense oil. For fresh fragrance compositions, it can be combined with organic mandarin oil, while organic rose oil enhances its elegant, balsamic notes.
Due to its caring properties, it also has applications in cosmetics. It may help oily and blemished skin.
In aromatherapy, cistus oil is traditionally valued as a "meditation oil." Its distinctive fragrance is associated with calmness, a sense of security, and inner balance, and it can help create a relaxing atmosphere.
Organic cistus oil is obtained through gentle steam distillation of the leaves and young shoot tips of the gum rockrose (Cistus ladanifer).
Interesting things
Rockroses grow in dry, hot regions around the Mediterranean. Some species are known as "fire plants": after forest fires, they are often among the first plants to recolonize the affected areas.
Labdanum, extracted from rockrose, is widely used to create warm, amber-rich accords. It lends many oriental fragrances their distinctive depth and sensuality.
