Catnip Oil French
Catnip oil is not a mint type but belongs to its own genus with about 250 varieties of this perennial plant. The TRUE catnip, Nepeta cataria, is the most well-known. Originally from Western Asia, it is also found in Europe. To produce 1 kg of essential oil, about 300 kg of flower buds are needed. The leaves smell of lemon and mint and retain this aroma even long after drying.
Cats, likely due to genetics, have a strong attraction to catnip Nepeta cataria (essential oil). Even big cats like lions enjoy it. The compound actinidine in the oil is what makes it so irresistibly attractive to cats. It activates their play behavior.
